Cross River Rail

The Department of Transport and Main Roads (TMR) has undertaken the Detailed Feasibility Study for the Cross River Rail Project. This study followed the completion of the Inner City Rail Capacity Study (ICRCS).

The Cross River Rail study will address:
• Forecast passenger demand in peak periods to the inner city increasing from more than 44,000 in 2006 (currently 53,000) to between 70,000 and 80,000 by 2016 and 105,000 and 130,000 by 2026
• A bottleneck in the inner city rail network restricts the number of additional trains that can be added to south east Queensland’s rail network to meet growing demand

Bamser Involvement In the Project

Bamser were invited to provide specialist engineering services to assist Transport and Main Roads to meet key project procurement milestones. These included technical deliverables to inform the Project Definition Report (PDR). The PDR identifies a preferred 2016 corridor for State Government endorsement and supports the submission by the department of an Initial Advice Statement seeking ‘significant project’ declaration by the Coordinator-General.  It will also assist with achieving the milestone of displaying the Draft EIS Terms of Reference.

The Bamser services included:
• critical underground engineering design reviews
• detailed technical studies on tunnel general arrangement and underground station construction
• constructability advice including construction methods, tunnel options analysis, cost planning, project programming
• identification, analysis and quantification of project risk and opportunity
• provision of 12D alignment and CAD drafting and development of the digital model for the project
• technical support of the land and property acquisition team
