Broadmeadow Sustaining Operations

Leighton Contractors Pty Ltd completed the construction of the BSO Project at the Broadmeadow mine in Queensland. Part of the project scope included the provision of the drainage infrastructure.  Leighton Contractors proposed to construct three 1800mm internal diameter microtunnels for drainage culverts under three of the main gate accesses.

Bamser Involvement in the Project

Bamser were introduced to the Leighton team to provide input into the feasibility of the microtunnels proposed and to offer initial feedback and recommendations on the proposal. Specifically, Bamser provided the following services:

  • Conducted a site visit to the Broadmeadow Sustaining Operations Project;
  • Provided advice on the key elements of the microtunnelling feasibility assessment geology, tunnelling methodology, methodology and settlement;
  • Compiled a feedback report to the Leighton based on the findings from the site visit, the review of the relevant project information and assessment of the key elements;
  • Provided recommendations regarding the planning and delivery phase operation.

Following the feasibility stage of the project, Bamser carried out the following services during the Tender Phase:
• Productivity analysis and cost planning based on first principles analysis;
• Compiled detailed Scope of Works and specification for the tender package;
• Assisted in technical queries arising through the tender phase;
• Undertook a detailed tender assessment and award recommendation.
